I’m no Ashton Kutcher. I’m no Charlie Sheen. I’m no Justin Beiber. I’m no Lady Gaga.
I’ve never been in a movie, TV show, commercial or music video. I don’t have tens of thousands of fans on my Facebook page or millions of views on my YouTube videos. I’ve never done anything viral or worthy of much attention at all. I am a normal, everyday, average person. I wonder, can someone like me (a normal person) get a million followers on Twitter? It’s an interesting question, don’t you think? At the end of the day, I’m no different than any other “follower” in the Twitter Universe – just a guy who sat down one day and asked, “how in the world would I even go about that?!”
Moreover, I am interested in the “social experiement” involved with such an idea. Sure, guys like Charlie Sheen can get a ton of followers because they’re popular — they’re constantly in the public eye (winning, duh!). What about a guy like me who isn’t in the public eye?
I can’t depend on the popularity of my music, TV show or on media attention to attract followers. I am totally dependent on the good graces of my fellow followers. Don’t get me wrong, I promise to make it interesting along the way with some fun tweets and other ideas I have cooked up – but at the end of the day, I go nowhere without you.
What I am hoping to do to give back to you guys for helping me out is to have regular Twitter contests to give away cool stuff donated to me. If you checkout my sponsors page, I hope to very soon start getting that filled up with some cool stuff that I will give back to my followers. I promise you guys (and do hold me accountable) that I will keep nothing donated to this cause to myself — every item donated to me will go back out to you guys in the form of Twitter contests.
Let’s see what we can all do together.
